Sustainability 2010 Goals

After conferring with hundreds of internal and external stakeholders, Bristol-Myers Squibb adopted comprehensive sustainability goals for 2010. We track our performance against these goals worldwide and report to the public on our progress, whether negative or positive. We strive to make our company more sustainable by meeting, and where relevant, exceeding these goals.

2010 Goals - Progress Report

The table below presents the company's status in meeting the Sustainability 2010 Goals. These goals were developed in 2000 as stretch goals for our company, and we anticipate achieving all of these goals by the end of 2010, although the pace of progress will differ by goal. Use the links in this report card, or scroll to the end of this page, to find more detailed information about each goal.

back to topResearch Contributions

Bristol-Myers Squibb is a supporting member of the Environmental Associates, a group of leading industries that work in cooperation with the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to conduct research and inform the public about environmental topics. As part of this effort to inform the public, the associates and the Academy of Natural Sciences produce the Know Your Environment series. These articles are sent free of charge to thousands of newspapers, magazines, environmental organizations, reporters, legislators, educators, and individuals – and they are now available to anyone with access to the World Wide Web. They provide a more in-depth explanation of the science behind the issues that are often reported in the popular media. Our association with the Academy of Natural Sciences and our financial support for the Environmental Associates represents one example of how we are working to meet our 2010 Sustainability Goal on Environmental Stewardship, which calls for sponsoring EHS research through various funding sources to demonstrate our commitment to expand society's knowledge and understanding.

Bristol-Myers Squibb also funded a $100,000 project in Puerto Rico to create a biodiversity planning map, in conjunction with The Nature Conservancy, an internationally respected environmental conservation organization.

back to topLand Preservation

As of the end of 2007, Bristol-Myers Squibb has funded conservation of 1,616 hectares of biologically diverse habitat in Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Ireland, Mexico, China, Canada and the United States.

In 2006, working through Wetlands International-China, Bristol-Myers Squibb adopted 16.5 acres of wetland at the Yalujiang National Nature Reserve. This is a rich wetlands and wildlife protection area for bird migration. The bird migration path stretches from Alaska in the United States to China, Asia, and down to Australia and New Zealand. This is the first time that a multinational company has adopted wetlands in China for environmental preservation.

Additional site conservation projects are underway. Several Bristol-Myers Squibb facilities support local programs -- and encourage employee participation in projects -- that protect critical land areas. These projects are often undertaken in conjunction with the endangered species 2010 goal.
